I even briefly tried making my own, using a recipe I found on the Internet. That recipe included ground soap, and resulted in T-shirts with permanent yellow stains around the necks and underarms. Apparently, soap reacts with something in sweat.Still searching for an alternative to the expensive stuff, I stumbled on Charlie's Soap here on Amazon, and decided to try a small bag to see if it was effective. The stuff is amazing! It removed those seemingly permanent yellow stains left by my homemade soap misadventure, and will take out all kinds of other stains. Over time, it's even managed to remove the ground-in dirt from the bottoms of my kids' socks. Charlie's actually isn't soap, chemically speaking, so it won't cause the trouble that a true soap does.
