Consumer Reports says it's one of the best and we agree. It's been an excellent detergent, without question. However, we belong to one of those warehouse store organizations and their competing product is Kirkland Signature Ultra Laundry Detergent. It's much cheaper than Tide, and that provides an incentive to try it. In addition, one month they gave us an extra two-dollars-off coupon and that proved to be just too much to resist. We tried it, we liked it, we've been using it ever since.Detergents would be very hard for an individual to judge. There are no adequate controls on any home testing experiment. It would probably be best to look at Consumer Reports judgments and then see if it fits your own needs and observations. That's difficult too. It works very well and has a nice scent to it. The issue we have is that it produces a lot of suds. I am a big kirkland fan and like most of there products. We have used this detergent for a long time with our old top loading washer and never had a bad thing to say about it. Well we bought a new front loading washer and dryer and even using half the recommend amount, we are still getting suds errors. To make it work without erroring out we are using about 1/4 the recommended amount. Seems to still work but for a HE detergent i would not expect it to create this many suds. After running into this problem, i did some looking around online and found that this is a common issue for this detergent. I think ill try there free and clear version next time to see if it is better. I should add we dont have these issues with the EOS detergent from Costco. Read more 1 of 4 people found the following review helpful  Who dried off the dog with this towel???, This review is from: Kirkland Signature 2x Ultra Laundry Detergant 170 Oz., 110 Loads (Kitchen) This is the second time I have been caught using this detergent.I couldn't find my regular brand at Costco so I grabbed the Ultra.I got out of the shower the other day and grabbed a towel and started drying off. What a smell!! I was sure someone had dried the dog off and hung the towel back up. It is that bad. In fact I am insulting the dog because it smelled more like a gorilla. My wife heard me complaining and said everyone in the house was noting the smell and that it was the detergent. I then remembered we had been caught on this one before.We laughed about it and I just had to see if we were the only ones noting the stink.All kidding aside we use a late model Maytag Bravos with our water Ph being average. Directions are followed so I don't believe it is the process.We spend approx$400.00 per week at Costco (big family)and never have a problem with any Kirkland products except this one.I never write reviews unless the products are really good or really bad and I have to say...
