I've had skin problems and now found the culprit. I'ld paid a lot for my GE washing machine. I had read the websites full of recommendations. I had already tried vinegar, quart of full strength bleach etc. Vinegar helped cut the smell, but it came right back in my next load of wash. Plus, it was expensive in the quantities I had to use. If this stuff called "Smelly Washer" didn't work, I was going to ditch my washing machine and buy a top loader. I ran one cap in hot water through the machine. I let it soak overnight. MY GE Front loading washing machine still stank, but was slightly better. Progress! I wiped my finger around the seal, and there was still black slimy gunk, but it looked a little, say, "gellified". It did absolutely NOTHING. Asked for my money back (it was advertised as a money back guarantee), but the seller said he could not find a record of my purchase. How convenient. Simply use some Borax in a large load of towels. It is anti bacterial and does a fantastic job. Not to mention it is cheap. It is also the only thing that actually works. Basically our towels smelled and that was annoying. I started to first battle this smell with bleach and vinegar and clorox washing machine cleaner and baking soda... We did a lot of cleaning. Washer would get better but smell would come back within a week. And towels still smelled. Then i found charlies soap on amazon and we tried that. I soaked our overfilled washing machine (perm press setting for 20 min and then powered it down) over night with Charlies Soap and then noticed that tub was covered in moldy flakes. As I drained water from our cleaning tube/pipe (located int he front bottom of our front load LG) I got many many more flakes. After 5-6 cleaning with Charlies Soap i continued to get these moldy flakes (even after an extra rinse).
