This product, Tide HE 2x Concentrated Liquid Detergent with Bleach Alternative, Original Scent, is one of the best detergents on the market.

Yes, it is more expensive than other brands, but you can't beat it for getting out stains. If you have spot stains, just pour a little directly on the stain and throw it in the washer.

An alternate (at a lower cost) that works pretty well is GAIN HE, and can be found at Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Concentrated-Liquid-Detergent-Original-Bottle/dp/B000O3FEOU/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=hpc&qid=1205015890&sr=8-1

--but it's no Tide HE.

Tide HE leaves behind a wonderful fresh scent, which I describe as a combination of lemon, fresh air and good old soap.

Combined with it's "sister" product, Downy Ultra, you get the freshest smelling laundry around.

Now, about those other ratings. Why would you rate a product one star (and make others think it is an inferior product) if you... Read more

Judging from the problems people are complaining about, it seems many of the reviews above are comparing this to standard detergent. This is special High Efficiency (HE) detergent for side loading washers. It's more expensive then standard detergent. I see one of these bottles in the store for about 25 bucks. It's designed to have less suds and be used in with lower soap to water ratio, which is most likely why one of the reviewers above was having issues with smelly laundry. Side loading washers used 30-40 percent less water, so the water in those will be a lot more soapy than if used in a top loader. Always read the descriptions when shopping online, and if you don't know what 'HE' stands for, ask the internet. I've been using this detergent for a while now, does the job, the dirtiest of work towels always come out clean and fresh smelling. This four pack will last me about a year and for the price, you can beat it.

I've been using Tide with bleach for years and years. I've tried other detergents, and this one gets our clothes the cleanest, keeps our whites whitest and gets most stains out. My family has really tested it too! My kids played softball, baseball and high school football all of which really tested the stain and "smell" factors. Now, I have a baby granddaughter who is testing the baby stain capabilities. Again, Tide with bleach is a winner! To be fair, sometimes I do have to use a pretreatment on a really tough stain (mustard, grape juice, etc.) and I do have to take extra steps with mildewed towels, but overall this is a great product.

It's really no wonder that Consumer Reports rated this highest out of the 11 HE detergents they tested (for conventional washers, out of 24 tested, Tide 2X Ultra Concentrated With a Touch of Downy liquid, Tide 2X Ultra Concentrated for Cold Water liquid and Tide With Bleach With Color Clean ranked 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively)... 5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible!, August 14, 2007
BikeChick (SD) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Maggies Soap Nuts 100% Natural Laundry Soap (80 Loads)
Let's see, the only thing I can compare a soap nut to is a date. It's wrinkly, sticky, and the same size of a date - and even kind of smells like one too. The scent is not very strong, it's a really mild fruity smell.

You can use soap nuts for a variety of things: laundry soap, shampoo, body soap, pesticide, glass cleaner, the list goes on. The informative flyer it came with even said it can cure athlete's foot - so I'm soaking my feet in soap nut water every day!

The second I received my soap nuts, I started making my own liquid soap. All you need is 1 part soap nuts, 4 parts water - you can boil the soap nuts or let them soak over night. Then you just run the liquid through cheese cloth and viola, you got liquid soap!

I used my liquid soap as a shampoo. It was a little difficult to tell if I was using enough since the liquid soap is well, liquidy. So I poured some on my head and rubbed it in to my scalp and through my hair. It almost felt sticky when... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Nuts for Soap Nuts, June 8, 2007
Beinghappy (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Maggies Soap Nuts 100% Natural Laundry Soap (80 Loads)
This must be the only truly natural laundry soap. It grows on trees. And it works great. I have used it for months on my laundry and now I can't believe that I was using factory made chemicals on my body my whole life. The clothes are really soft and don't smell industrial. I found some refrences in Chinese herbal medicine that it is good for skin problems, so I gave some to a friend and it healed his athletes feet. I have just started making liquid soap and using it for everything. Thanks Maggie. This stuff is awesome.

Thank you for providing a natural soap. I have ended up spending less money than I do on detergent and my clothes are brighter, cleaner and softer. It also works on silk and wool, I can't believe it!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Worked well for a while..., April 11, 2011

This review is from: Tiny Bubbles Detergent, Net Wt. 60 oz., Yellow Box (Health and Beauty)
(see update below) I had been using BioKleen liquid detergent for our cloth diapers, but I could only buy it in massive quantities through Amazon Prime, so I decided to pass this time. I read lots of reviews on similar products, and went with Tiny Bubbles. Price per load is good, and I could get it with the Prime shipping. Our cloth diapers have come out just as clean and "clean-smelling" as with the other product, so no complaints from me. The other nice thing about powder is it's easier to pack a little ziploc to take with you when traveling, which swayed me from a liquid as well. When we run out of our other 'regular' detergent we're going to use this exclusively for all of our clothes, not just diapers.

**Update: I wrote this review less than 14 days ago, after using the detergent for about one month; ironically, both my husband and I noticed our diaper loads lately have increasingly smelled like ammonia. This has been a recent development, but we used biokleen for over... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars After 12 Months of Cloth Diapering, June 17, 2012

This review is from: Tiny Bubbles Detergent, Net Wt. 60 oz., Yellow Box (Health and Beauty)
After extensive research and even a class on cloth diapering at the local birth center, I settled on the Grovia system and have not regretted that decision. My son is now 12 months and we have been using Grovia since about 8 weeks. We have lots of cloth diapering friends so I have had the chance to see lots of cloth diapers in action and I am very glad that I invested in grovia to begin with. Here are the products we use, why we like them and (in some cases) how they could be improved. There is a lot of material covered in this review. I am doing it this way because I wish there had been something comprehensive like this on Amazon when I was shopping for my diaper stuff! If you are considering buying a Grovia system, this will be helpful for you. If you are looking for a comprehensive review on just one item, other reviews may be more suitable.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not Recommended, February 27, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Tiny Bubbles Detergent, Net Wt. 60 oz., Yellow Box (Health and Beauty)
I used this item when I first started cloth diapering my baby. I used it because of the reviews and recommendations for cloth diapers. I wasn't satisfied with the item because my diapers and clothes were still dingy. I understand that they aren't going to look like clothes washed in Tide or other name brand detergents but I didn't feel that the dirt and grime were getting removed from my diapers and clothes. I have found other detergents that are eco and cloth diaper friendly that remove dirt much better. Also, the packaging isn't the best. While being shipped, the soap comes out of the box and is in the plastic wrap, meaning you have a small amount of detergent lost and then it gets stuck on the folds of the cardboard. I used 3 boxes before I switched, giving it a lot of time to work.
