Tide HE won't fade your colors like other HE detergents I've tried (Sears) and it gets out all of my stains - my stain sticks now sit unused and I don't have to sort through every item searching for stains (a time saver with 4 kids!) YES, you will get free shipping, and it reminds you to choose free shipping on the checkout page, so if you're new to Amazon, be sure to read the directions!! More than that and suds remain. Perhaps if you have pets or kids who play in the mud a lot you need the higher amounts, but my "normal" wash sure doesn't warrant it and in fact seems to work better with the lower amounts. (This also means you get a lot of loads out of a single box.)
